Timing Cover Oil Seal: Service and Repair

1.

Remove timing belt, refer to TIMING BELT.

2.

Remove crankshaft timing pulley.

3.

Remove oil pan, refer to OIL PAN.

4.

Remove oil pump. Carefully remove sealing materials from both oil pump flange and cylinder block.

5.

Using a screwdriver, remove oil seal, if necessary.

6.

Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Apply sealant Part No. TB-1207B or equivalent to the oil pump fitting face. Ensure that sealant is not applied to oil ports.
b. On 1.8L/4-110 engine, use Oil Seal Installer tool No. J-35269, install new oil seal into oil pump assembly.
c. On 3.2L/V6-193 engine, use Oil Seal Installer tool No. J-39202, install new oil seal into oil pump assembly.
d. Apply engine oil to oil seal lip.
e. On 1.8L/4-110 engine, torque oil pump assembly retaining bolts to 17 ft. lbs.
f.

On 3.2L/V6-193 engine, torque oil pump assembly retaining bolts to 13 ft. lbs.

g. Ensure care is taken not to force garter spring out of position during oil pump installation.
