Headlamp Motor: Description and Operation
Headlamp Door Retractor (With Anti-Theft)
OPEN OPERATION
Battery voltage is supplied at all times through the main fuse to the lighting relay. When the headlights are turned on by using the headlight switch
or the flash to pass switch, ground is provided to the coil of the lighting relay and the relay is energized. This causes the normally open contacts to
close. Power is then provided through fuse 7 and diode box 1 to the headlight cover relay 2 and the switch in the headlight cover motor. Power is
supplied through the switch to the headlight cover relay 1 and the relay energizes. When the relay energizes, power is provided to the headlight
cover motor. The motor runs to raise the headlight cover doors. As the motor runs, the headlight cover indicator light lights.
PARK OPERATION
When the lights are switched from HEAD to PARK, the lighting relay is deenergized. Power is then provided through the light switch to the
headlight cover relay 2. The relay is kept energized by power supplied through the normally open contacts of the headlight cover relay 2 and diode
box 1. The headlight cover doors remain in the open position. When the lights are switched from OFF to PARK, the cover doors remain closed.
CLOSED OPERATION
When the headlights are switched from HEAD to OFF, ground is removed from the lighting relay and the relay deenergizes. Power is now
provided through the normally closed contacts of the lighting relay and the headlight cover relay 2. Power is supplied through the switch in the
headlight cover motor to the headlight cover relay 1. The relay energizes, providing power to the headlight cover motor. The motor runs to close
the headlight cover doors. As the motor runs, the headlight cover indicator light lights.
