SERVICE PROCEDURE 
Install the steering wheel reinforcement plate and nut (provided in the kit) as follows:

WARNING 
Failure to follow proper Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) module precautionary procedures could result in possible air bag deployment
personal injury and/or unneeded SIR system repairs. Special care must be taken when handling a live (undeployed) SIR module. See Section 9J
of the appropriate Workshop Manual.

1.

Disconnect and tape the negative battery cable terminal before servicing the SIR system. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY RESULT IN
ACCIDENTAL DEPLOYMENT AND POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY.

WARNING 
The SIR module is equipped with a Diagnostic Energy Reserve module (DERM, which assures sufficient energy to deploy the SIR system if the
ignition voltage is lost. The DERM can maintain sufficient voltage to cause air bag deployment for up to 10 minutes after the battery is
disconnected. Wait at least ten minutes before proceeding to Step 2, to allow the SIR module to de-energize.

Refer to Figure 1.
a.

Turn the steering wheel 900 from the neutral position. On the lower side of the steering wheel, remove the two bolts securing the SIR
module to the steering wheel.

b.

Turn the steering wheel 90~ in the other direction from the neutral position. Remove the remaining two SIR module fixing bolts.

Carefully remove the SIR module as follows:
