Suspension Strut / Shock Absorber: Service and Repair
Front Suspension

1.

Raise and support vehicle, then remove wheel and tire assembly.

2.

Remove brake hose retaining clip from strut assembly, then disconnect brake hose from brake caliper.

3.

Pull brake hose through opening in the strut bracket.

4.

Remove lower strut assembly retaining bolts.

5.

Working from inside engine compartment, remove upper strut assembly retaining nuts.

6.

Working from outside the vehicle, remove strut assembly from vehicle.

7.

Using coil spring compressor support fixture base tool No. J-3289-20, support fixture tool No. J-34013, adapter (bottom) tool No. J-34013-88 and
adapter (top) tool No. J-34013-110, Compress coil spring. Do not over compress the spring.

8.

Remove cap from top of strut assembly, then the retaining nut.

9.

Remove upper strut mount, then the spring seat and upper rubber.

10.

Remove coil spring, then the lower cushion.

11.

Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Assemble the parts within support fixture.
b. Align coil spring to the lower spring seat. Paint marks on spring must be positioned toward the bottom of the strut assembly.
c. Torque upper strut coil spring retaining nut to 43 ft. lbs.
d. Align the ``IN'' mark on the upper spring seat to face the inside of the vehicle.
