Timing Chain: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

1.

Drain engine oil.

2.

Remove cylinder head. (Refer to CYLINDER HEAD REPLACEMENT in ENGINE MECHANICAL).

3.

Drain coolant (if not already drained) and remove radiator.

4.

Remove crank pulley and water pump pulley.

5.

Raise engine in vehicle and remove engine oil pan.

6.

Remove two left side water pump bolts ONLY.

7.

Remove front timing cover bolts and timing cover.

8.

Remove timing chain.

INSTALLATION

1.

Check oil jets (in chain guide). Jets should face toward crankshaft.

2.

Make sure that engine is on TDC for #1 cylinder.
