Vacuum Brake Booster: Service and Repair

1.

Remove vacuum hose clamp, then disconnect vacuum hose from power brake unit.

2.

Disconnect brake lines from master cylinder.

3.

Unhook brake pedal return spring from pushrod.

4.

Remove snap ring from pushrod-to-brake pedal pin, then slide pin out of pedal.

5.

Remove attaching nuts, then the power brake unit and master cylinder assembly.

6.

Separate master cylinder from brake unit.

7.

Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Prior to installation of the master cylinder, measure distance from flange surface of power brake unit to end of pushrod. On Rodeo models,

apply 197 in.Hg of vacuum to vacuum booster before taking measurement. If projection does not measure .709-.717 inch, adjust with locknut
at end of pushrod, then torque locknut to 11-18 ft. lbs.

b. Torque power brake unit attaching nuts to 18-21 ft. lbs.
c. Torque brake line fittings to 6.5-11 ft. lbs.
