Oxygen Sensor: Service and Repair

OXYGEN SENSOR REPLACEMENT

CAUTION:Use care handling the oxygen sensor.  The electrical connector and louvered end must be kept free of grease, dirt or other contaminants. 

Avoid using cleaning solvents of any type.  Do not drop the sensor.  The pigtail and connector are permanently attached.  Proper operation
of the sensor may be affected if the pigtail and connector are removed or damaged.

Disconnect battery negative cable and sensor connector.

2.

Carefully unscrew sensor.  The sensor may be difficult to remove when engine temperature is below 48°C (120°F).  Excessive force may damage
exhaust pipe threads.

NOTE: Special anti-seize compound consisting of liquid graphite and glass beads is used on oxygen sensor threads.  New sensors will already have the

compound applied to threads.  A sensor that is to be reused must have anti-seize compound applied to its threads prior to reinstallation.

Coat sensor threads with anti-seize compound if necessary and screw into place.  Torque to 41Nm (30ftlb).

4.

Attach sensor electrical connector and reconnect negative battery cable.
