Chart A-5  Fuel Pump Relay Circuit

Circuit Description

When the ignition switch is turned "ON", the Engine Control Module (ECM) will activate the fuel pump relay and operate the in tank fuel pump. The
fuel pump will operate as long as the engine is cranking or running and the ECM is receiving ignition reference pulses. If there are no reference pulses,
the ECM will shut "OFF" the fuel pump within 2 seconds after key "ON".

Test Description

Numbers below refer to circled numbers on the diagnostic chart.

1.

Checks for the presence Battery Position Voltage at switching portion of fuel pump relay.

2.

Checks circuit between fuel pump relay and ground (including the fuel pump).

3.

This test will confirm if voltage is available to the relay coil.

Diagnostic Aids
