While the key is pushed in, turn the key counter-clockwise with medium pressure. (Figure 3) A clicking sound can be heard and felt when the
plastic tabs and cylinder lock assembly realigns internally. At this time, the button should spring back out as normal. (Figure 4)

Once the button has sprung back out, unlock and open the tailgate.

With the button in the out position, turn the key clockwise to unlock the tailgate.

Push the button to release the hatch glass and use the handle to raise the hatch glass.

Open the tailgate door.

Follow the published procedure in Section 8H of the Workshop Manual for removing the tailgate lock (key) cylinder.

Once the lock cylinder is removed, install J44488 to lock cylinder and place the assembly in a vise using light jaw pressure.
