AFFECTED VEHICLES
Certain 1998 and 1999 Rodeo (UE) models equipped with automatic transmission (serial number 5504006-5570892).
SERVICE INFORMATION
Condition:
The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) sets and Tech-II indicates the presence of Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P1870 on vehicle equipped with
automatic transmission (serial number 5504006 - 5570892).
Cause:
Failed torque converter.

If mileage is less than 3,500 miles and Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) is in good condition and turbine shaft "O" ring is not damaged, then
replace torque converter.

If mileage is greater than 3,500 miles or transmission damage is suspected (transmission fluid is burnt-brown in color or other evidence of damage),
follow Workshop Manual procedures to diagnose and repair as needed.
NOTE:
In this case, torque converter is not necessarily to be exchanged.

Verify the following:

The vehicle has less than 3,500 miles.
^
The only DTC stored is P1870
^
Serial numbers falls within 5504006-5570892 located on the transmission identification plate.
