Drive/Propeller Shaft: Service and Repair
First Propeller Shaft
1.
Place gear selector in Neutral position.
2.
Raise and support vehicle, then apply alignment marks using paint or ink on front and rear propeller connecting flanges to ensure proper
installation.
3.
Remove catalytic converter front retaining bolts.
4.
Remove propeller shaft retaining bolts near center bearing, then front retaining bolts.
5.
Remove front propeller shaft from vehicle.
6.
Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Torque propeller shaft retaining bolts to 26 ft. lbs.
Second Propeller Shaft
1.
Place gear selector in Neutral position.
2.
Raise and support vehicle, then apply alignment marks using paint or ink on front and rear propeller connecting flanges to ensure proper
installation.
3.
Remove center exhaust pipe, then center bearing carrier to body bolts.
4.
Remove second propeller shaft.
5.
Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Torque center bearing carrier to body retaining bolts to 14 ft. lbs.
b. Torque propeller shaft retaining bolts to 26 ft. lbs.
Third Propeller Shaft
1.
Place gear selector in Neutral position.
2.
Raise and support vehicle, then apply alignment marks using paint or ink on front and rear propeller connecting flanges to ensure proper
installation.
3.
Remove catalytic converter front retaining bolts.
4.
Remove propeller shaft retaining bolts near center bearing, then front retaining bolts.
5.
Remove front propeller shaft from vehicle.
6.
Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Torque propeller shaft retaining bolts to 26 ft. lbs.
