Timing Cover Oil Seal: Service and Repair
1.
Remove timing belt as outlined under ``Timing Belt, Replace.''
2.
Install a 6 mm bolt with a pitch of 1.25 into threaded hole in timing pulley housing, through hole in pulley, to prevent turning of pulley. Remove
camshaft timing pulley using a suitable puller.
3.
Remove oil seal retaining bolts, then retainer.
4.
Remove oil seal from retainer.
5.
Remove crankshaft pulley bolt, then crankshaft center and timing pulley using a suitable puller.
6.
Remove front oil seal dust cover, then oil seal.
7.
Coat lipped portion of seal with oil, then install seal using tool J-24250 or equivalent.
8.
Reverse procedure to install noting the following:
a. Using tool J-24254 or equivalent, install camshaft oil seal into retainer.
b. Install oil seal retainer and cam center with camshaft timing pulley. Torque bolts to 72-87 ft. lbs. (10-12 kg-m).
