AFFECTED VEHICLES
Certain 1999 VehiCROSS (X) models with VIN prior to X7990741.
SERVICE INFORMATION
Condition:
The radio may have very poor reception when listening to AM frequency channels.
Possible Cause:
No power source to the amplification circuit of the rear roof mounted antenna causes weak AM radio signals. Junction at the black 2-pin connector
behind the radio, inside the dashboard, may have mis-located pins causing an open connection. Only one pin conductor out of the 2-pin positions is used
to connect the antenna amplifier wire.
Correction:
Follow the procedure outlined in this bulletin to correct this condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1.
Record the radio presets if any, and disconnect battery (-).
2.
Remove the AM/FM cassette radio unit from the dash.
Figure 1: Locate black connector with orange and blue wires.
3.
Locate the black 2-pin connector junction with one wire at each end. (Figure 1)
^
This connector is located near the radio harness connector.
^
One end of the connector has an ORANGE wire (originating from the radio) and a BLUE wire at the other end (originating from the vehicle
harness).
4.
Notice the conductor pin placement of each connector in relation to each other. The pin of the female end of the connector must line-up with the
receptacle in the male end of the connector.
^
Poor AM reception and open condition occurs when the pin/wire location of one end of the connector does not match the other. (Figure 2)
