1. Disconnect battery ground cable and drain cooling system.
2. Remove drive belts, then the radiator fan shroud.
3. Remove cooling fan and pulley.
4. If equipped with A/C, disconnect compressor from mounting bracket, position compressor aside and remove mounting bracket. Do not disconnect
hoses from compressor.
5. Remove water pump retaining bolts and the water pump.
6. Remove vibration damper, then disconnect lower radiator hose from timing cover.
7. Remove timing cover attaching bolts, then the timing cover.
8. Pry crankshaft seal from timing cover, then position new seal so open end of seal faces towards inside of cover. Drive seal into position using tool
J-23042 or equivalent.
9. Clean old sealant from timing cover and cylinder block.
10. Apply a continuous 3/32 inch bead of anaerobic sealant to timing cover sealing surface as shown, Fig. 14, then position cover onto cylinder block.
Install bolts, then torque M8 x 1.25 bolts to 15 ft. lbs. and M10 x 1.50 bolts to 25 ft. lbs.
11. Install water pump.
12. Connect lower radiator hose, then install vibration damper.
13. Install A/C compressor mounting bracket, if equipped, then the cooling fan, pulley and fan shroud.
14. Install drive belts and fill cooling system.
15. Reconnect battery ground cable.
