Cherokee 4WD V6-173 2.8L VIN W 2-bbl (1985)
6. Unlock the throttle control cable by releasing the T-shaped cable adjuster clamp (7). Release the clamp by lifting upward with a small screwdriver.
7. Grasp the cable outer sheath and move the cable and sheath forward to remove any cable load on the throttle cable bellcrank.
NOTE: The bellcrank is part of the carburetor throttle linkage.
8. Adjust the cable by moving the cable and sheath rearward until there is zero lash between the plastic cable end and the bellcrank ball.
9. When zero lash between the cable end and the bellcrank is achieved, lock the cable by pressing the T-shaped cable adjuster clamp downward until
the clamp snaps into place.
10. Install the air cleaner.
11. Raise the vehicle.
12. Remove the holding spring from the transmission throttle control lever and lower the vehicle.
13. Road test the vehicle and check transmission operation. Readjust the throttle cable, if necessary.
