SYMPTOM\CONDITION
A new power window regulator has been released to replace the tape drive power window regulator used in 1982 through 1989 vehicles built before
March, 1989. The new regulator is a direct replacement for the tape drive unit and should be used whenever replacement of a tape drive unit is required.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
This procedure involves removing the tape drive regulator and replacing it with the new design unit.
1.
Remove the door trim panel.
2.
Remove the radio speaker on front doors.
3.
Position the window to gain access to the screws that hold the glass to the regulator bracket.
4.
Remove the screws that hold the glass to the regulator. It may be necessary to hold the plastic retainers to keep them from turning.
5.
Separate the glass from the regulator. Raise the glass to the top of the channel and tape it to the door frame.
6.
Unplug the regulator connectors from the harness.
NOTE:
DO NO UNPLUG THE HARNESS FROM THE BACK OF THE SWITCH, THE CONNECTORS ARE IN THE HARNESS ABOUT 10 INCHES
FROM THE SWITCH.
7.
Remove the screws attaching the regulator to the door and remove the regulator.
8.
Install the new regulator. Install the regulator attaching screws and tighten to 12 in. lbs./1.4 N.m. The regulator bracket mounts in the same
location as the original.
9.
Plug the regulator connectors into the harness.
10.
Remove the tape from the glass and lower the glass. It may be necessary to operate the regulator to align the arm with the access holes. Install the
