Axle Shaft Universal Joint Service

1. Remove axle shaft as described under "Axle Shaft, Replace."
2. Remove snap rings from universal joint bearing cups.
3. Press on one end of bearing cup to remove opposite bearing cup from yoke half.
4. Press on exposed end of bearing cross journal and remove remaining bearing cup from yoke.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for remaining bearing cups.
6. Clean universal joint components in a suitable solvent. Check parts for wear or damage. Replace damaged parts as required.
7. Pack bearing cups 1/3 full of suitable lubricant and install bearing rollers.
8. Install bearing cross journal.
9. Install bearing cups into axle shaft yoke halves. Ensure bearing cups are completely seated against bearing shoulders.

10. Install bearing cups onto journal.
11. Install bearing cup snap rings. If universal joint binds when assembled, gently tap on yoke to relieve tension on bearing cups at each end of

journal.
