Valve lifters can be removed after removing rocker arm assemblies and pushrods, using tool J-21884 or equivalent,. Failure of hydraulic lifters used in
these engines, Fig. 7, is generally caused by dirt or insufficient lubrication due to low oil levels, oil contamination or foaming.
