A/T Adaptive Logic and Relearn Procedure
The transmission/transaxle computer uses logic to adjust solenoid duty and line pressure as needed to compensate for normal clutch wear over the life of
the transmission. The adaptive values must be reset after replacing the transmission or reprogramming / replacing the PCM or TCM. After the adaptive
values are reset, the transmission computer adaptive values must be relearned by driving in a precise manner to teach the computer the proper solenoid
duty and line pressure for the new transmission/computer combination. The relearn drive has two parts; dynamic for upshifting/downshift and Static for
shifting from P to D or R to D, etc.
Resetting Adaptive Values
1. Use Hi-Scan or GDS, go to the automatic transmission/transaxle section and select Resetting Adaptive Values. (GDS users should select the System
Option link from the Main Screen to access the button for this function.)
2. (Hi-Scan Pro ONLY)With key on and engine off, push YES and then push RST (F1) button. You must see the "Successful" message.
3. (GDS ONLY) Follow the prompts to reset the adaptive values. Confirm that the reset is successful before continuing.
Adaptive Value Relearn
1. Dynamic Driving
Hook up the scan tool or GDS and bring ATF temp. just over 120 F (Middle Range) and drive from a stop shifting from 1st - 3rd gears (five speeds-1st -
4th) at 30% TPS (Approx. shift RPM 3000). Repeat 3 - 5 times until any shock or flare is eliminated.
2005 and later model year Sorento has a Sub-ROM in the transmission, the procedure is the same as above except 8 - 12% TPS. It is extremely important
that the TPS not exceed 12% during the procedure or the complete relearn drive must be done again.
2. Static Shift
Stop vehicle and shift into N for three seconds. Shift to D for two seconds. Repeat 3 - 5 times until there is no N > D shock.
Stop and shift into N for three seconds. Shift to R for two seconds. Repeat 3 - 5 times until there is no N > R shock.
The adaptive logic reset and relearn is complete.
