Brake Caliper: Service and Repair
Front

NOTE: The caliper cannot be rebuilt. It must be replaced as a unit.

REMOVAL

1. Raise the front of the vehicle and properly support it.
2. Remove the front wheels.
3. Remove plastic dust covers and the two caliper retaining pins.
4. Remove the caliper.
5. Remove the spring clip.
6. Remove the brake pads.
8. Prepare to catch any brake fluid. Disconnect the brake hose using a flare nut wrench and set the caliper aside.
9. If necessary, remove two hex-head caliper bracket bolts and the caliper mounting bracket.

INSTALLATION

1. Mount the caliper mounting bracket with two hex-head bolts, if bracket was removed.

Tightening torque: 24-32 Nm (18-24 ft. lbs.).

2. Connect the brake hose to the caliper using a flare nut wrench.

Tightening torque: 12-20 Nm (9-15 ft. lbs.).

3. Position brake pads in the caliper cavity and install caliper onto caliper mounting bracket.
4. Lubricate and install two caliper retaining pins and tighten to specification.

Tightening torque: 20-28 Nm (15-21 ft. lbs.).

5. Install dust covers.
6. Bleed the system. See: Brake Bleeding/Service and Repair
7. Inspect the system for any leaks.
