Fluid - A/T: Testing and Inspection
INSPECTION
CAUTION: Place the vehicle on a flat, level surface.
1. Apply the parking brake and position wheel chocks securely to prevent the vehicle from rolling.
2. Warm-up the engine until the ATF reaches 140 - 158° F (60 - 70° C).
3. While the engine is idling, shift the selector lever from P to L and back to P.
4. Let the engine idle.
5. Shift the selector lever to P.
NOTICE: Use the COOL 68° F (20° C) range only as a rough reference.
6. Ensure that the ATF level is in the HOT 149° F (65° C) range. Add ATF to specification, if necessary.
ATF type: M-III or Dexron(R) III
FLUID CONDITION
NOTICE: Carefully check the condition of the ATF and determine whether or not the automatic transaxle should be disassembled. If the ATF is
muddy and varnished, it could indicate burned drive plates or brake band.
1. Check the ATF for discoloration.
2. Check the ATF for any unusual smell.
