Suspension Strut / Shock Absorber: Service and Repair
Rear Suspension

DISASSEMBLE

Fig. 1 Strut Assembly Service

1. Disassemble strut in numerical sequence shown in Fig. 3, noting the following:

a. Secure mounting block in a suitable vise.
b. Do not remove piston rod nut until coil spring is compressed in suitable spring compressor tool.

ASSEMBLE

1. Secure strut absorber in suitable vise, then install lower spring seat.
2. Insert end of coil spring into step on the lower seat.
3. Compress coil spring using suitable spring compressor tool.
4. Install bound stopper and stopper seat.
5. Install mounting block, aligning studs of mounting block and lower bracket of strut absorber.
6. Loosely tighten piston nut.
7. Carefully loosen and remove spring compressor tool. Ensure coil spring is correctly seated in mounting block and lower spring seat.
8. Secure mounting block in a suitable vise, then install retainer and washer.
9. Tighten piston rod nut to specifications, then install protective cap over nut.
