SERVICE TIP:
KMA has received some reports about technicians adjusting the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS), however, such an adjustment is not always necessary.
The Bosch Engine Management Systems used on previous generation Sportage and Sephia/Spectra, as well as, the Siemens system used on Rio,
Optima V6 and new model Spectra (2.0 L engine) do not require adjustment to the TPS after removal or replacement. The ECM on these vehicles will
"learn" the new limit positions and corresponding voltage outputs after a few throttle applications. On Melco systems such as, Sorento and Sedona
where the TPS is equipped with an integrated idle switch, some adjustments can be made. For Sorento and Sedona see Technician Times Volume 7,
Issue 2, Page 7. Amanti vehicles are equipped with Electronic Throttle System (ETS) and do not require any mechanical adjustment on TPS or
Acceleration Pedal Sensor (APS).
Note: The ETS system does require an initialization procedure after disconnecting or after replacement.
