About the Sportage
The Sportage was launched in 1993 and was built on a Mazda Bongo base during Kia's alliance with Ford and Mazda, sharing its engines and other parts with Mazda. After a break it returned for the 2005 model year as a car-based crossover, built on the same platform as the Hyundai Tucson. It has been Kia's best-selling model worldwide since 2016.
What these manuals cover
- 1995–2002 (first generation): the Mazda-designed 2.0-litre four (FE) in SOHC and DOHC form, with two or four-wheel drive and two or four doors.
- 2005–2009 (second generation): the 2.0-litre four and the 2.7-litre V6.
- 2011 (third generation): the 2.4-litre four.
Tip: the 2005–2010 Sportage shares its platform with the Hyundai Tucson, whose manuals cover the same 2.0 four and 2.7 V6.
