Axle Shaft Assembly: Description and Operation
Front
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
A Hypoid-type differential ring and pinion gear set transmits the engine's driving force to the front wheels through halfshafts. The gear set and a single
axle are enclosed in a modified Salisbury type housing which is bolted to the vehicle. The left and right halfshafts are attached to the differential and
drive wheels by Constant Velocity (CV) joints. Free wheel vacuum hubs are provided.
A limited-slip differential is not an option for the front drive axle.
Notice: The front hubs are not interchangeable between 4WD models. 2WD Front Hubs do not include two attaching points for the 4WD
Vacuum-Locking Front Hubs.
