ENGINE DOES NOT START IN ANY CONDITIONS

2.4 JTD 10V

The engine does not start. When the key is turned the instruments light up as normal, the starter motor turns, but the engine does not start up.

The MIL warning light should come on with the ignition on and go out once the engine is started;

If there is a problem with the reconfigurable matrix, there is a CODE message which only lights up when there is a fault.

STEPOPERATIONS TO BE CARRIED OUTTEST RESULTS
0PRELIMINARY CHECKSALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION

Turn the key to the ON position and check that the CODE is working properly Then check:

  • that the inertia switch has not been operated;
  • presence of fuel in the tank;
  • air intake circuit;
  • correct operation of the flow modification valve;
  • correct operation of the exhaust manifolds.
  • that there are no leaks or seepage from the high and low pressure fuel pipes
Move on to Step1. CODE failure message present

1. Continue following the instructions in the Table

Continue following the instructions in the table K52 CODE FAILURE WARNING LIGHT ON

2. Intertia switch operated2. Restore correct operation
3. Lack of fuel3. Add fuel to the tank
4. Filter dirty or partly blocked

4. Replace the filter element

See in Op. 1048A14 air cleaner filtering element - replace.

5. Flow modulation valve working incorrectlyMove on to Step
6. Exhaust blocked6. Restore exhaust manifolds to working order
7. Presence of leaks7. Eliminate leaks
1CHECK USING DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENTALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION

Connect the diagnostic equipment (Examiner or other instruments) to the diagnostic socket.Check, as described in test 1060D, that the diesel pressure parameter is correct.Move on to StepPressure not correctMove on to Step
5INJECTOR HIGH PRESSURE CHECKALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION
Check, as described in procedure 1060C, that the leaks of diesel from the injector recirculation connections are only slight and about the same as one another.Move on to StepPersistent leak from one injectorReplace the injector
6LOW RETURN PRESSURE CHECKALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION
Check, as described in test 1060A, that the pressure in the return pipe to the tank is less than 1 barMove on to StepPressure above the maximum limit: return pipe to the tank obstructedRepair the pipe, if necessary, replace it
7LOW SUPPLY PRESSURE CHECKALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION
Check, as described in test 1060B, that the diesel pressure between the filter and the pressure pump is between 2 and 3 barMove on to StepPressure below the minimum limit or above the maximum limitMove on to Step
8LOW SUPPLY PRESSURE CHECKALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION
Constrict the return pipe, downstream of the valve, and carry out test 1060B again with the pipe constricted checking that the pressure at the filter outlet stays below 2 barMove on to StepPressure rises to 5 bar: pressure regulator valve on filter mounting incorrectly adjusted

Replace the valve

See in Op. 1044B16 Fuel supply/return adjustment valve on fuel filter - R.R.

9LOW SUPPLY PRESSURE CHECKALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION
Check that the difference in pressure upstream and downstream of the filter is less than 1 barMove on to StepDifference in pressure more than 1 bar

Replace the fuel filter cartridge

See in Op. 1044B20 fuel filter filtering element - replace

10CHECK LOW SUPPLY PRESSUREALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION
Check that the supply pump pressure at the filter inlet is more than 2.2 barMove on to StepPressure below 2.2 barMove on to Step
11LOW SUPPLY PRESSURE CHECKALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION
Measure the difference in pressure between the electric pump outlet and the filter inlet and check that it is less than 0.3 barMove on to StepDifference in pressure more than 0.3 barReplace the pipe
12LOW SUPPLY PRESSURE CHECKALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION
Check, as decribed in test 1040AA, that the pump supply voltage is equal to 12V and that the current absorption is between 2 and 10 AmpereMove on to Step1. Voltage < 12 volt

1. Check electrical wiring
