OPERATIONS IN NETWORK

We wish to notify you that the removing-refitting of the clutch mechanism (clutch/drip tray) on the 2.4 JTD 20v version should only and exclusivelybe carried out using the special tool n1.871.003.100

In advance of the Service Manual update the operating cycle for the removing-refitting that must be carried out is described below:

OPERATING CYCLE

Removing (see Fig. 1)

  • Fit the tool (1) flywheel lock n° 1.860.846.001 (Op. 1810A24)
  • Undo the three bolts (2), at 120°, fastening the clutch drip tray.

Fig. 1

  • Fit the centering device (3a) and the rest of the tool (3b) n° 1.871.003.100, tightening the bolts (3c) in the seats of the bolts removed previously.
  • Turn the handwheel of the tool (6) until the pins (4a) come into contact with the disc (4b).
  • Undo the remaining bolts (5) securing the clutch cover.
  • Unscrew the handwheel (lever) of the tool (6) to discharge the clutch mechanism's diaphragm spring.
  • Remove the tool.
  • Remove the clutch cover.
  • Remove the clutch disc.

REFITTING (see Fig. 2)

  • Refit the tool centering device (1) on the crankshaft. Place the clutch mechanism in position.

It should be remembered that when fitting the clutch plate it should be positioned with the words 'engine side' or 'gearbox side' in the correct place.

Handle the clutch plate carefully and do not touch the surfaces of the friction linings with your hands.

Clean the protective anti-corrosion products or detergents from the friction surface of the clutch cover.

Fig. 2

  • Fit the remaining part of the tool (3a) for fitting the clutch unit, by tightening the bolts (3b).
  • Turn the handwheel of the tool (6) until the pins (4a) come into contact with the disc (4b).
  • Manually tighten the three bolts (5) securing the clutch assembly using the special spanner to the end of travel position (without tightening to torque which will be checked later using a torque wrench).

The three bolts (5) must be fully tightened using the special spanner in order to ensure that the clutch is not retracted when the tool is later removed.

  • Unscrew the handwheel of the tool (6) to discharge the clutch mechanism's diaphragm spring.
  • Remove the tool.
  • Manually tighten the remaining bolts fixing the clutch using a special spanner (as above).
  • Gradually tighten, in diagonal order, the bolts securing the clutch unit until the recommended torque of 2.8 daNm is reached.
  • Remove the flywheel lock (7).
