DETAIL

A small number of reports have been received which indicate an oil leak emanating from the crank seal, Land Rover Diesel engineers have found that the process for the fitting of the No 5 main bearing ‘T’ seal was incorrect and resulted in the seal becoming cracked or split, a number of rear crank seals and carriers have been replaced unnecessarily due to this process, dealers should check the ‘T’ seals before replacing seals and carriers using the process below.

Note: This bulletin supersedes 12/13/95/EN the parts information section has been amended.

ACTION REQUIRED

Upon a suspect rear crank oil seal leak, the No 5 bearing ‘T’ seal should be checked for damage before replacing the crank seal and carrier.

PROCEDURE

Refer to the workshop manual section 12 crank shaft main bearing.

1. Remove the sump and No 5 main bearing cap. 2. Check the ‘T’ seals and replace were necessary. 3. Replace the rear crank seal carrier and gasket.
