DETAIL
Oil leaks from the rear of the cylinder block could come from either:
a) The rear main seal
b) The camshaft gallery plugs
c) The camshaft bearing bore cup plug
Please consider the information below when diagnosing and repairing a vehicle with a rear engine oil leak.
ACTION REQUIRED
Upon customer complaint of an oil leak from the rear of the engine follow the procedure shown below to diagnose and repair.
PARTS INFORMATION
Rear Main Oil Seal (black):

Gallery Plug Thread Sealant:
Loctite 242
Camshaft Bore Plug Sealant:
Loctite 54041
(equivalents to the Loctite sealants may be used, call 1 800 Loctite for local supplier information)
PROCEDURE
Having investigated the oil leak and traced it to the rear of the engine, remove the transfer box and transmission (section 37, 41 and 44 of the Workshop
Manual). Remove the drive plate/flywheel (refer to section 12 of the workshop manual) to gain access to the rear seal area of the block.
Establish the cause of the oil leak and follow the appropriate procedure.
