Examine the rear main seal for signs of leakage. An orange colored seal was used on Range Rover until RA641987. The seal is now black but
functionally provides the same sealing performance. Do not condemn a seal simply because it is orange. Should it be necessary to replace a rear main
seal, use Service Tool LRT54-A01 to extract the seal from its recess in the block and main bearing cap. Care must be taken to ensure that the seal journal
or housing bore is not damaged.

Note: 

It is not necessary to remove the oil pan or main bearing cap to remove the seal.

When installing a new seal first examine the seal recess for sharp edges or other irregularities which could damage the OD of the new seal. Use Land
Rover Service Tool LRT-12-095 (old tool # RO.1014) to guide the seal lip onto the crank journal. Coat the tool and seal outside diameter with a film of
clean oil before use. With the seal in position on the crank journal drift it into the block seal recess using Land Rover Service Tool LRT-12-091 until the
tool bottoms out on the block/bearing cap face.

B)

Camshaft Gallery Plug Leaks

If evidence of leakage is seen around the gallery plugs remove the plug(s), clean and reseal them with Loctite 242 or equivalent thread seal lock adhesive
and torque to 37-44 ft.lb. (50-60 Nm)

C)

Camshaft Bearing Bore Cup Plug Leaks

If a leak is found in this location, remove the plug, and install a new plug using Loctite 54041 or equivalent. Take care to make sure sealer is applied to
the full perimeter of the new plug and that the block recess is clean and dry before fitting the plug. Drift in the plug until it is flush with the block.
