Using tool LRT-51-003, hold flange and remove pinion nut and washer (figure 4).

4.

Using tool LRT-54-AO1 or equivalent, carefully remove old oil seal.

5.

Remove and discard metal dust shield from rear output housing.

Inspection

1.

Inspect oil seal bore for damage or sharp edges.

2.

Remove any sharp edges that may damage new seal.

3.

Check transfer gearbox breather operation if not checked previously.

Installation

1.

Using appropriate side of tool LRT-41-012 install new seal (figure 5). Use tool LRT-99-003 as driver.

2.

Install new flange, new dust shield, and felt washer. Install washer and new nyloc(R) nut
Tighten to 162 Nm. (117 lbf. ft.).

3.

Install parking brake drum and attach with screw.
Tighten to 25 Nm. (18 lbf. ft.).

4.

Using new nyloc(R) nuts fasten driveshaft to flange.
Tighten to 45 Nm. (32 lbf. ft.).

5.

Install drain plug. Tighten to 30 Nm (22 lbf. ft.).

8.

Fill transfer gearbox to correct level with GL-4 or GL-5 gear oil.
