INFORMATION
Hose clips
4. Markings are usually provided on the hose to
indicate the the correct clip position. If no
markings are provided, position the clip directly
behind the retaining lip at the end of the stub as
shown.
5. Worm drive clips should be oriented with the
crimped side of the drive housing facing towards
the end of the hose, or the hose may become
pinched between the clip and the stub pipe
retaining lip.
6. Worm drive clips should be tightened to
3 Nm (2
lbf.ft) unless otherwise stated.
CAUTION: Ensure that hose clips do not
foul adjacent components.
Heat protection
7. Always ensure that heatshields and protective
sheathing are in good condition. Replace if
damage is evident.
8. Particular care must be taken when routing
hoses close to hot engine components, such as
the exhaust manifold and the Exhaust Gas
Recirculation (EGR) pipe.
CAUTION: Hoses will relax and deflect
slightly when hot; ensure this movement
is taken into account when routing and
securing hoses.
METRIC BOLT IDENTIFICATION
1. An ISO metric bolt or screw, made of steel and
larger than 6 mm in diameter can be identified by
either of the symbols ISO M or M embossed or
indented on top of the head.
2. In addition to marks to identify the manufacture,
the head is also marked with symbols to indicate
the strength grade, e.g. 8.8, 12.9 or 14.9, where
the first figure gives the minimum tensile
strength of the bolt material in tens of kgf/mm
2
.
3. Zinc plated ISO metric bolts and nuts are
chromate passivated, a gold-bronze colour.
