AFFECTED RANGE:

All vehicles prior to VIN XA 414090

RE - ISSUE INFORMATION: Final VIN and details of an improved ultrasonic control module added. Please destroy your existing copy and replace with this Issue 2.

PROBLEM:

‘ALARM FAULT’ MESSAGE DISPLAYED ON MESSAGE CENTRE

The alarm system self-check has detected a fault although the customer may be unaware of a problem. Affected vehicles are predominately 98MY (WA).

CAUSE:

Poor connection or poor sensitivity within the alarm ultrasonics section.

ACTION:

For a vehicle displaying the ‘Alarm Fault’ message, proceed as follows;

NOTE: A second person outside the vehicle will be required to assist with locking/unlocking.

1. With the technician in the drivers seat, ensure that all windows and doors are closed.

2. Remote ‘superlock’ the vehicle from the outside. The technician within the vehicle must remain still until the second lock is heard to have taken place.

3. Once superlocked, the technician within the vehicle should lean forward and back - this should activate the alarm.

4. If the alarm activates but the message persists, this indicates a poor/intermittent connection within the ultrasonics section.

Bulletin N o : 0008 L8451bu 2 03.02.99

5. If the alarm does not activate, wave in front of the ultrasonic sensor. If the alarm now activates, this indicates poor sensitivity of the ultrasonics.

6. Unlock the vehicle from outside using the remote handset.

• = If results are as described in Step 4, confirm that the electrical connectors to the ultrasonic sensor module and the BECM are in good condition and fully latched. Refer to Electrical Troubleshooting Manual Section S3 and connectors C362 , C359 and E367 . = = • = If results are as described in Step 5, replace the ultrasonic sensor module.
