AFFECTED RANGE:

PROBLEM:

ENGINE RUNNING PROBLEMS - CAMSHAFT GEAR SIGNAL ERROR

Engine running symptoms such consumption or pinking may be reported. TestBook diagnostic check shows fault code ‘P 0340’ with a ‘Camshaft Sensor Fault’ description.

CAUSE:

Condition is caused by a camshaft gear signal switching error. with some early examples of camshaft drive gears which have retained unwanted residual magnetism. If the normally produced camshaft signal is interrupted, cylinder recognition does not occur, this has a consequential affect on ‘knock control’ and ‘ignition mapping’.

ACTION:

If vehicle produces the symptoms described above, is within the range shown in AFFECTED RANGE and fault code ‘P 0340’ is confirmed by TestBook, replace camshaft gear ERR7375. Refer to Workshop Manual repair number 12.65.12.01 for full information on replacement.

This ‘de-magnetized’ camshaft drive gear has been fitted from the engine numbers shown in AFFECTED RANGE . All parts stock is to the latest condition and the part number is unchanged from the original.

The error occurs

NOTE 1: If a different TestBook fault code is displayed, no fault code is displayed, or the vehicle is outside the affected range, investigate further as appropriate. The condition is not likely to be due to the cause described in this bulletin.

NOTE 2: If an incorrect camshaft drive gear has inadvertently been fitted, i.e. of the type fitted to previous V8 engines with GEMS, the symptoms will be similar to those described in this bulletin.
