AFFECTED RANGE:

All V8 derivatives prior to VINs:

Range Rover - WA 379043 Discovery - VA 746445 Defender - VA 127670

PROBLEM:

OIL LEAKAGE FROM ROCKER COVER GASKETS.

CAUSE:

Variability in rocker cover gasket assembly process.

ACTION:

Replace the rocker cover gaskets and bolts with the new items detailed in PARTS INFORMATION. The new gaskets incorporate an improved location method and the new bolts incorporate an integral seal under the head. Use in vehicle sets.

Refer to Workshop Manual Section 12.29 for repair procedure, observing the following requirements:

Install the gasket to the rocker • cover, ensuring that it is located onto the rocker cover lip.

Refit the rocker cover with four • new bolts of the appropriate length, (short bolts inboard).

CARE POINT: when fitting the left • hand rocker cover on Range Rover, ensure that the low tension lead to the coil pack does not become trapped between the rocker cover and cylinder head.

Tighten the bolts in two stages • using a diagonal sequence.
