Boost Charging/Starting
MODEL
New Range Rover
DETAIL
Investigations have shown that boost charging/starting should not be undertaken on New Range Rover vehicles where the battery is still connected to the vehicle electrical system. Some boost chargers may produce a large transient spike which can damage electronic components fitted to the vehicle, and therefore MUST NOT be used.
Note: If a vehicle battery has been boost charged when connected to the vehicle then there may be damage such that all of the warning lamps and illumination on the instrument pack will be illuminated at any time when the BeCM is awake. This is not an instrument pack fault (see the procedure overleaf for corrective action if the above fault has occurred).
Note: This bulletin supersedes bulletin NRR/86/09/96 additional information has been added overleaf
ACTION REQUIRED
Information only: Should boost charge/starting be necessary on New Range Rover the vehicle battery should be disconnected.

If a vehicle battery has been boost charged when connected to the vehicle then there may be damage such that all of the warning lamps and illumination on the instrument pack will be illuminated at any time when the BeCM is awake. This is not an instrument pack fault.
See the following procedure for corrective action if the above fault has occurred.
1) Disconnect the battery from the vehicle. 2) Disconnect C256 from the BeCM. 3) Back out Pin 14 which is a Black and Green wire. 4) Cut off the pin and cut 15mm 2 of the plastic sheathing off. Twist the bare wire. 5) Find a piece of wire of similar cross sectional area (0.5mm) approximately 300 mm length. 6) Add to one end of the wire an eyelet (16mm Diameter capable of holding 0.5mm 2 wire) using a crimp tool. 7) Cut 15mm of the plastic sheathing off the other end. Twist the wire. 8) Insert 30mm of heat shrink tube along the wire. 9) Twist the end of the wire and the Black and Green wire together. 10) Solder the join together and cover with the heat shrink tube. 11) Attach the eyelet on the other end of the wire to Ground E621. see the Electrical Trouble Shooting Manual Ground Distribution Section, after attachment, ensure E621 is tightened to at least 6 to 7 Nm. 12) Reconnect vehicle battery. Reset the windows (and sunroof), Enter the Radio Code and Resynchronise the Remote Handsets. 13) Check Instrument Pack Operation.
