All petrol derivatives up to VIN WA 410482 - see PARTS INFORMATION for further details.

PROBLEM:

INCONSISTENT FUEL GAUGE READINGS The customer complains that the fuel gauge does not indicate full despite filling the tank.

CAUSE:

A build up of contaminants on the fuel gauge sender unit, which increases the sender unit resistance, causing the gauge to incorrectly indicate a lower fuel level.

ACTION:

Where a customer complains of low fuel gauge indication when the tank is full and/or inconsistent gauge readings, replace the sender unit as detailed below.

1. Lower fuel tank from vehicle and remove tank unit, Manual number 88.25.32 refers.

2. Examine the sender unit resistor board for identification mark ‘VDO’ or ‘38A’ shown in illustration 1).

If marked 38A, replace the sender unit only, as follows:

1. Disconnect one large and one small sender unit connector from the top of the tank unit, (arrowed in illustration 2).

2. Carefully release 4 clips around pump housing (arrowed in illustration 3), and lower the housing to disengage pump from mounting lugs in base.

3. Carefully pivot the pump assembly to enable access past the convoluted fuel pipe to the pozidrive screw retaining the sender unit to the tank unit housing, (illustration 4 refers).

7. Align the four pump housing clips with the tank unit housing and carefully push fully home.

8. Fit the two sender unit connectors to the terminals at the top of the tank unit.
