Front Height Sensor - Water Ingress

MODEL

New Range Rover

DETAIL

The front height sensors on New Range Rover are a carry over item, from Classic Range Rover, which have been modified for the installation. During the introduction the electrical ‘flying lead’ sleeving was changed to an alternative material. This porous material allowed water to enter the sleeve and to create a column of water above the cable entry. With the higher temperatures on New Range Rover, the seal was breached and water entered the sensor.

Once the cause was established, a short term measure was introduced in January 1995 to change the sleeving back to the none porous material, providing an increased level of protection to the seal.

ACTION REQUIRED

Upon customer complaint of an Electronic Air Suspension (EAS) fault that shows on testbook as front height sensor out of range, replace the height sensor.

PARTS INFORMATION

ANR 2494 Height sensor

PROCEDURE

Refer to the workshop manual section 60 height sensor.

The interim design change to the components did not create a change to the existing part number ANR 2494, but can be easily recognised as the new sleeve has a ‘glossy’ appearance. The old sleeve was matt in appearance.

Also on the rear of each sensor there is a unique date code - 34994, (the sensor being manufactured during the 349 day of 19 94 ), Any sensors with a code after this will be to the interim design level. The final design change will create a new date code.
