AFFECTED RANGE:

All derivatives within VIN range VA 346794 to WA 409701

PROBLEM:

INCONSISTENT RIDE HEIGHT - ELECTRONIC AIR SUSPENSION (EAS)

The customer will have a number of concerns which may include: = • = The EAS does not respond to mode selections as required = • = ‘EAS FAULT’ is displayed on message centre = • = The EAS audible warning sounds = • = All EAS lights on driver control switch remain illuminated

CAUSE:

A condition can exist on vehicles within the above VIN range where the height sensors operate outside their specified range during normal operation. This is due to incorrect interpretation of height information within the EAS control unit.

ACTION:

Upon customer complaint of inconsistant operation of the EAS as described above, follow the procedure below.

Refer also to Workshop Manual Section 60, repair number 60.50.38 .

1. Connect to TestBook and follow instructions to lower the vehicle to the bump stops, ensuring that the vehicle is on level ground with correct tyre pressures. 2. From TestBook, read the bit values for the height sensors at each corner of the vehicle. 3. If any of the height sensors show a value at or below 42 bits, a new control unit (ECU) RQT100040 must be fitted and the EAS re-calibrated. Refer to Workshop Manual repair number 60.50.04 for ECU replacement procedure.

Bulletin N o : 0007 L8473bu 1 04.11.98

4. When a new ECU has been fitted, the system must be re-calibrated and fully checked for correct operation as guided by TestBook. If any faults re-occur, the original ECU was not at fault.

NOTE: EAS re-calibration is only required when the ECU or height sensors have been replaced.

If all readings are above 42 bits value with the system deflated, normal vehicle build tolerances will not interfere with height sensor operation. Diagnostic procedures should be followed to resolve any remaining EAS related Workshop Manual Section 60, Fault Diagnosis and TestBook.
