Driveline Vibration Diagnostic Aid

MODEL

New Range Rover

DETAIL

The information provided in this bulletin is to assist dealers to correctly diagnose driveline vibration on New Range Rover. The three most likely causes of vibration are as follows:

1.Engine Balance 2. Front driveline 3. Rear driveline

To identify the cause of a driveline vibration, see the procedure detailed below.

Note: Front axle damper kit should not be fitted to Diesel derivatives

ACTION REQUIRED

Upon customer complaint of driveline vibration, identify the type of vibration, and follow the procedure detailed below.

PARTS INFORMATION

STC 2789 Axle damper kit Rear STC 3105 Axle damper kit Front FS 112281L Fixings (2 off for each kit) Note: The damper assembly will not fit early V8 production vehicles ie damper fixing holes only introduced on the side of the differential unit at start of Diesel build. All vehicles from Vin 310031 will have fixing hole in the differential.

PROCEDURE

1. Engine balance: the vehicle RPM should be increased with the vehicle stationary and if vibration occurs at between 3500 and 4500 RPM, then the engine requires re-balance. (UK only - contact your Regional Technical Manager. Europe and Rest of World - contact Land Rover Export Service) 2. Front driveline : If vibration occurs around 40-45 Mph under hard acceleration and deceleration, the front driveline should be investigated.(confirm by removing front propshaft). 3. Rear driveline: If vibration occurs around 60 Mph under hard acceleration, then the rear driveline should be investigated (confirm by removing the rear propshaft). Driveline vibration can be overcome by the fitment of the above damper kit to the affected axle.
