Gearbox-Overheat Message

MODEL

New Range Rover Diesel Automatic

DETAIL

Should any vehicles within the above vin range experience a gearbox overheat message displayed on the message centre, this could be due to one of the following reasons; 1. Some oil coolers were inadvertently waxed on production and will cause overheating. 2. The incorrect fog lamp blanking plug has been fitted to the front spoiler and will cause overheating, (the correct type should have an open grill as shown in the illustration below). Note : A number of oil coolers have been stamped with an incorrect part number of ESR 3259. The oil cooler is in fact the correct type, and the correct part number is ESR 3489 ( if the oil cooler is clear of wax and has an incorrect part number, the oil cooler should not be replaced).

The gearbox overheat message will clear from the message centre when the vehicle cools down.

ACTION REQUIRED

If the oil cooler has excessive wax on it, and a gearbox overheat message is displayed on the message centre, where possible the oil cooler should be de-waxed (using the correct de-waxing material see parts information), if the wax cannot be removed then the oil cooler should be replaced.
