Brake Fluid Accumulator: Testing and Inspection
ACCUMULATOR PRECHARGE- CHECK
NOTE: If a problem is suspected, the following procedure will indicate if the precharge pressure has fallen.
1. Depressurize the brake system fully.
Connecting Pressure Gauge
2. Remove banjo bolt (2) securing high pressure hose, use a second wrench on large hexagon to prevent it being loosened. Fit pressure gauge adaptor
(3), using sealing washers and connect gauge.
3. Switch ignition on and observe the pressure gauge.
Pressure Chart
4. There should be a rapid rise in pressure to accumulator precharge (point X) of 80 bar (1160 psi), then a slowing down in the rate of increase as the
pressure rises to system pressure, 170 bar (2466 psi) - see chart, graph A.
5. If point X is low as in chart, graph B, i.e.. 50 bar (725 psi) it indicates that the accumulator has lost its precharge.
6. If faulty, fit a new accumulator.
7. Depressurize system, remove pressure gauge and adaptor.
8. Fit banjo bolt securing high pressure hose, use NEW sealing washers, tighten to 15 Nm (11 ft lb).
9. Bleed pump.
10. Check/top up fluid level.
