4. REMOVE REAR UPPER NO. 2 CONTROL ARM
(a)
Remove the nut on the axle carrier side.
(b) Using SST, remove the control arm.

NOTICE:

Securely tie string of the SST to the vehicle.
^
Do not damage the dust cover.
^
Securely set the SST on the spacer of the axle carrier.
^
If the spacer of the axle carrier comes off, replace the axle carrier with a new one.
(c)
Remove the bolt, nut, washer, and control arm.
HINT:
Push the axle carrier downward.
INSPECTION
1. INSPECT REAR UPPER NO. 2 CONTROL ARM
(a)
Temporarily install the nut, and flip the ball joint stud back and forth 5 times as shown in the illustration.
(b) Use a torque wrench to turn the nut continuously at a rate of 3 to 5 seconds per turn. Take the torque reading on the fifth turn.
Standard turning torque: 3.4 N*m (35 kgf*cm, 30 in.*lbf)
If the value is not within the specified range, replace the rear No. 2 upper control arm with a new one.
(c)
Check the dust boot for cracks or grease leakage.
