Air Bag: Testing and Inspection
Horn Button Assy

CAUTION:  Be sure to perform the initialization of the occupant classification ECU under the conditions listed below.If the initialization is not
performed, the SRS may not operate properly.

-

The occupant classification ECU is replaced.

-

Accessories (seatback tray or seat cover, etc.) are installed to the vehicle.

-

The passenger seat is removed from the vehicle.

-

The SRS warning light comes on.

-

The vehicle is brought to the work shop for repair purpose due to the accident or collision.

VEHICLES NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION

a. Do a diagnostic system check.
b. Do a visual check which includes the following items with the horn button assy installed in the vehicle: Cuts, minute cracks or marked

discoloration on the horn button assy top surface and in the grooved portion.

VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG IS NOT DEPLOYED

a. Do a diagnostic system check.
b. Do a visual check which includes the following items with the horn button assy removed from the vehicle:

-

Cuts, minute cracks or marked discoloration on the horn button assy top surface and in the grooved portion.

-

Cuts and cracks in wire harness, and chipping in the connectors.

-

Deformation of the steering wheel assy.

-

The deformation of the horn button contact plate of the horn button assy.

HINT:  
-

If the horn button contact plate of the horn button assy is deformed, never repair it.Always replace the horn button assy with a new one.
