Timing Chain: Service and Repair
TIMING CHAIN REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L5]
CAUTION:
-
Parts for engines manufactured in Mexico and Hiroshima cannot be used interchangeably as the engine will not operate correctly resulting in a
serious malfunction. To prevent this, when replacing parts refer to the 'VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER (VIN) CODE' table below and
verify the engine's place of manufacture before performing the servicing. (See See: Application and ID/Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
Code)
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the plug hole plate. See: Service and Repair/Removal and Replacement/Plug Hole Plate Removal/Installation
3. Remove the ignition coils. See: Powertrain Management/Ignition System/Ignition Coil/Service and Repair
4. Remove the ventilation hose. See: Intake Manifold/Service and Repair
5. Disconnect the camshaft position (CMP) sensor connector.
6. Disconnect the oil control valve (OCV) connector.
7. Remove the front wheel and tire (RH). See: Steering and Suspension/Suspension/Service and Repair
8. Set the front mudguard (RH) out of the way. See: Body and Frame/Spoilers, Flaps, and Air Dams/Mud Flap/Service and Repair
9. Remove the splash shield (RH).
10. Remove the aerodynamic under cover No.2. See: Body and Frame/Splash Guard/Service and Repair/Aerodynamic Under Cover No.2
Removal/Installation
11. Loosen the water pump pulley bolts and remove the drive belt. See: Drive Belts, Mounts, Brackets and Accessories/Drive Belt/Service and Repair
12. Remove the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor. See: Powertrain Management/Computers and Control Systems/Crankshaft Position Sensor/Service
and Repair
13. Disconnect the drive shaft (RH) from joint shaft, set the drive shaft (RH) out of the way. (ATX) See: Transmission and Drivetrain/Drive Axles,
Bearings and Joints/Axle Shaft Assembly/Service and Repair/Removal and Replacement/Drive Shaft Removal/Installation
14. Remove the coolant reserve tank. See: Cooling System/Coolant Reservoir/Service and Repair
15. Remove the P/S oil pump with the hoses and pipes still connected. (See See: Steering and Suspension/Steering/Power Steering/Power Steering
