Torque Converter: Service and Repair
TORQUE CONVERTER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [AW6A-EL]
1. Remove the transaxle. See: Service and Repair/Removal and Replacement/Automatic Transaxle Removal/Installation - AW6A-EL
CAUTION:

The oil seal is easily damaged by the sharp edges of the torque converter splines. Do not let the splines contact the oil seal.

Do not drop the torque converter.

Do not pinch fingers.
2. Remove the torque converter, and immediately turn it so that the hole faces upward. This will help to keep any remaining fluid from spilling.
3. Drain any ATF remaining in the torque converter.
4. Using a flathead screwdriver, position the drive gear on the oil pump component in the center.
5. Install the torque converter to the transaxle.
6. To ensure that the torque converter is installed accurately, measure distance A between the end of the torque converter and the end of the converter
housing.

7. Install the transaxle. See: Service and Repair/Removal and Replacement/Automatic Transaxle Removal/Installation - AW6A-EL
8. Perform the "Mechanical System Test". See: Transmission Control Systems/Testing and Inspection/Initial Inspection and Diagnostic
