Transmission Temperature Sensor/Switch: Service and Repair

WARNING:

A hot transaxle and ATF can cause severe burns. Turn off the engine and wait until they are cool.

Using compressed air can cause dirt and other particles to fly out, causing injury to the eyes. Wear protective eyeglasses whenever using
compressed air
CAUTION:
-
Water or foreign objects entering the connector can cause a poor connection or corrosion. Be sure not to drop water or foreign objects on the
connector when disconnecting it.
1. Remove the control valve body.
a. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
b. Remove the air cleaner component. See: Engine, Cooling and Exhaust/Engine/Intake Manifold/Service and Repair
c. Remove the air cleaner bracket.
d. Remove the TCM. See: Relays and Modules - Transmission and Drivetrain/Relays and Modules - A/T/Control Module/Service and

e. Clean the transaxle exterior throughout with a steam cleaner or cleaning solvents.
f.
Drain the ATF into a separate suitable container. See: Automatic Transmission/Transaxle/Service and Repair/Procedures/Automatic Transaxle

g. Disconnect the oil hose from the transaxle.
h. Remove the oil pipe. See: Automatic Transmission/Transaxle/Transmission Cooler/Service and Repair/Removal and Replacement/Oil Cooler

Remove the control valve body cover.

Remove the control valve body. See: Automatic Transmission/Transaxle/Valve Body/Service and Repair/Removal and Replacement/Control

2. Remove the coupler component lock plate.
CAUTION:
-
Do not damage the wiring harness.
-
Do not pull hard on the wiring harness.
3. Remove the coupler component from the transaxle case.
4. Remove the O-ring and the gasket from the coupler component.
