Valves, Adjust
Set intake valves to .008-.012 inch clearance and exhaust valves to .012-.016 inch clearance with engine cold.
1.
Remove valve cover, then turn crankshaft to position No. 1 cylinder at TDC of compression stroke.
2.
Measure valve clearance using a suitable feeler gauge. If clearances are not within specifications, adjust as follows:
a. Position intake cam lobe straight up, then move tappet as necessary to provide access to valve adjusting disc.
b. Depress tappet using tool No. 49 S120 220 or equivalent and remove adjusting disc using a small screwdriver.
c. Install new adjusting disc of appropriate size to bring valve clearance within specifications. Adjusting discs are available in thicknesses of
.146-.169 inch in increments of .002 inch.
3.
Measure and adjust cylinders 2, 3 and 4 as described in step 2.
