RE:
SPECIAL SERVICE PROGRAM -- SSP02 1984-1985 626 (DIESEL) CYLINDER HEAD GASKET
Mazda Motor Corporation has determined to initiate a Special Service Program -- SSP02 (hereafter referred to as "Program") for the cylinder head
gasket on 1984-1985 Mazda 626 equipped with diesel engine, effective February 14, 1986. A summary of the Program features is shown on the separate
sheet I. The repair procedures regarding this cylinder head gasket failure and the contents of the letter being sent to customers are shown on the separate
sheets II and III, respectively.
We request your assistance to carry out this Program, and also, please make certain that your parts and service personnel are familiar with the details of
the Program so that they will be able to respond to customer's inquiries.
All questions that you have should be directed to your DSM.
Your cooperation in this Program will be greatly appreciated.
Summary of Program Features

Background
On some of the 1984-1985 Mazda 626 equipped with diesel engine, there may be oil leakage between the cylinder head and block or to the coolant
passages at the high pressure oil feed hole, especially after repeated vehicle's cold start and heavy acceleration. This oil leakage was proved to be
caused by premature deterioration of the cylinder head gasket.
The cylinder head gasket has been modified since February 1, 1985 as indicated in the Service Bulletin, Category 1, 011/85 dated April 18, 1985.
In addition, the coating of the head bolt has been changed to secure sealing durability of the cylinder head gasket. However, this modification for
the head bolt has not been applied to the Mazda 626 equipped with diesel engine for the U.S.A. as the production of this model for the U.S.A.
ended on February 29, 1985 before this modification.
In order to assure customers' continued confidence and satisfaction with Mazda products, Mazda Motor Corporation has determined to institute the
Program.

Subject Vehicles
Subject vehicles of the Program are 1984-1985 Mazda 626 equipped with diesel engine. The VIN ranges are as follows:

Program Features
The Program consists of the following two plans and goes into effect on February 14, 1986.
3-1. Warranty Extension Plan
The warranty period for the cylinder head gasket of the subject vehicle is extended to 5 years or 60,000 miles of operation from the earlier date of
either first use or retail delivery of the vehicle, whichever occurs first.
3-2. Reimbursement Plan
A customer who has already paid the repair costs for the premature failure of the cylinder head gasket of the subject vehicle can be reimbursed for
the reasonable costs of that repair work providing the following three requirements are met.
(1)
The repair has been performed within 5 years or 60,000 miles of operation from the earlier date of either first use or retail delivery of the
vehicle, whichever occurs first.
(2)
The repair has been completed and paid for on or before February 28, 1986.
(3)
A reimbursement application form and a legible copy of the paid repair order or invoice are mailed to the designated address, postmarked no
