Power Steering Pump: Service and Repair
Removal and Installation
W/ 4 Wheel Steering
1.
Disconnect battery ground cable, then raise and support vehicle.
2.
Remove power steering drive belt, then the power steering pump pulley attaching nut.
3.
Disconnect power steering pressure pipes and cap openings.
4.
Remove power steering pump bracket.
5.
Remove pump, them remove pulley from pump.
6.
Reverse procedure to install, torquing pump bracket to pump attaching bolts, pump pulley attaching nut, pressure pipe to pump, pump bracket to
engine attaching bolt, oil pipe union nut and oil pipe bracket to specification.
W/O 4 Wheel Steering
1.
Disconnect battery ground cable, then raise and support vehicle.
2.
Remove drive belt, then the pump pulley attaching nut.
3.
Disconnect and plug oil pipes.
4.
Remove pump bracket.
5.
Using tool 49W023585A or equivalent, remove pulley, then the pump.
6.
Reverse procedure to install, torquing nuts and bolts as follows:
a. Bracket attaching bolts, 27-38 ft. lbs.
b. Pulley nut, 36-43 ft. lbs.
c. Oil pipe to pump bolts, 65-72 ft. lbs.
d. Pump attaching bolts, 23-34 ft. lbs.
e. Oil pipe bracket attaching bolts and nuts, 12-17 ft. lbs.
f.
Oil pipe union nuts, 29-43 ft. lbs.
